In Bed With Madonna is easily the best movie she’s appeared in, acting or not, and is just an altogether great movie.
The only other films of hers I’ve seen are Dick Tracy, Evita and Desperately Seeking Susan, and while none of those are particularly great, Desperately Seeking Susan is a lot of fun and Evita has a great soundtrack.
Day 1: When and how were you first introduced to Madonna?
I’ve been aware of her for most of my life, but the first time I really took notice of her in the sense that I became a Madonna fan was late on a Saturday night in 9th grade. Rage had their guest artist programming the show, and if I recall correctly the artists were The Donnas, and they introduced and played “Like A Prayer,” which I didn’t think I’d heard before but must have because it’s the song during the heartbreaking “egging” scene from Never Been Kissed. The video mesmerised me and by the time it was finished, I knew I was a Madonna fan.
There are other instances when I can remember her from childhood, like when the video for “Frozen” was released after the Evita stuff. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that the Madonna in the “Frozen” video and the woman who sang “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” were the same person.
And every time I listen to “Secret” I’m reminded of Channel 7’s coverage of the AFL during the 90s, because they used to play it when they did the “If you don’t want to know the scores of the other games being played today, look away now.”
“Instead of rehab, though, when disaster struck, Gaga “went home.” She tells Robinson, “All I will say is I hit rock bottom, and it was enough to send a person over the edge. My mother knew the truth about that day, and she screamed so loud on the other end of the phone, I’ll never forget it. And she said, ‘I’m coming to get you.’” Gaga says they went to her 82-year-old grandmother’s house in West Virginia. “I cried. I told her I thought my life was over and I have no hope and I’ve worked so hard, and I knew I was good. What would I do now? And she said, ‘I’m gonna let you cry for a few more hours. And then after those few hours are up, you’re gonna stop crying, you’re gonna pick yourself up, you’re gonna go back to New York, and you’re gonna kick some ass.’”—Lady Gaga in Vanity Fair Interview (via loverbeau) (via tom-cooke)
